Maldon: Life expectancy postcode lottery
9:00am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Local News
The gap between life expectancy in the poorest and richest areas of the district has widened in the last five years.
Back in 2008, men living in the most deprived areas of Maldon died on average 1.5 years earlier than men in the least deprived.
This has now shot up to 6.9 years, according to the district’s 2013 health profile compiled by Public Health England.
For women, the difference in life expectancy between rich and poor in 2008 was 3.7 years. This is now 4.4 years.
The most recent figures show the average district-wide life expectancy at birth for men is 80.1 years and 83.4 years for women, which is above the England average.
