Essex: Advice issued as fire fighters strike today
8:55am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Local News
There will be reduced fire cover in Essex today as members of the Fire Brigades Union join colleagues across the country in a national strike between the hours of midday and 4pm.
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We have strong resilience arrangements in place and will have more than 30 pumping appliances, as well as specials including an aerial ladder platform and water bowser on the run to protect the County.
"These will be crewed by Essex fire fighters.
"To help us to help you, we would urge you to be safer, be slower, be vigilant.
"In an emergency, you should still dial 999 and we will respond."
ECFRS has issued safety tips for homes and businesses.
All businesses with automatic fire alarm systems should note that the service may not be able to respond unless you follow up with a 999 call during this period.
The industrial dispute is between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over planned pension reforms.
