Maldon: Brother's shock after sibling collapses in street
5:00pm Monday 30th September 2013 in Local News
The brother of a man who died in an alleyway described how he came across the scene but did not know it was his sibling.
John Hingston, 76, was taken ill near Cherry Garden Road in Maldon on September 11.
He died despite the efforts of neighbour, Sam Haley, 19, who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and paramedics, who also tried to save him.
Brother Michael, 74, was on his way to meet John at his home in St Giles Close when he saw the alleyway cordoned off.
It was only on his way home after finding John was not at his house that he felt something was amiss and called police to check.
Michael, of Wood Road, Heybridge, said: “It was a really bad shock. We have never been apart in 74 years.”
Full tribute in this week's Maldon and Burnham Standard.
