Maldon: Luck changes for Raymond
3:00pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Local News
A man who was unable to work following a 12-month driving ban has managed to find work with a housing association's support.
Raymond Luck, who had worked as a driver for more than 30 years, was banned from driving in November 2011 for drink-driving.
Despite applying for jobs and receiving offers of work, potential employers became reluctant to take him on when they heard of the ban.
He spent a year-and-a-half looking for a job and even walked 12 miles to and from Witham to attend interviews or follow leads.
He signed up to 17 recruitment agencies and was struggling financially when he was contacted in February by Moat Housing’s Back to Work team.
He eventually found a job in May this year, as a lorry plant operator with Dale Hire, with the housing association’s support.
It has helped 45 jobseekers in the Maldon district since February.
