Maldon: 'Nimbys' object to housing plans
5:00pm Saturday 5th October 2013 in Local News
Villagers have been accused of nimbyism after plans for 33 homes were refused planning permission.
Roe Partners is appealing after Maldon District Council rejected its application for 11 flats, 22 houses and a shop on land south of Strathmore Road, North Fambridge.
Councillors said the new estate would have an “unacceptable visual impact” and “result in urban sprawl into the countryside.”
North Fambridge Parish Council and 116 residents had objected to the application.
Terry Wynn, agent for the developers, said: “Basically there are a lot of nimbys at North Fambridge in that they don't want anything to spoil their idyllic enclave.
“Any young person, even if it's their children, has got to move out of the village because there is nothing they can afford.”
