Maldon: Couple call for road safety measures after near-miss
5:00pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in Local News
A disabled woman was left badly shaken after a camper van struck her car door as she was removing her shopping bags.
Barry Harwood said wife Trudy was less than inches from being struck when the van knocked her open car door outwards as the driver pulled over to avoid an oncoming lorry.
The driver did stop and apologise, saying he did not see Mrs Harwood, 65, or the open door.
The couple, who live in Fambridge Road, Purleigh, have tyre ruts and a pothole on their land where vehicles have pulled over from the main road to avoid oncoming traffic.
Mr Harwood fears said speeding is a particular problem, which he believes has worsened since passing places were built into the road because drivers do not use them.
