Maldon: Historic house to become boutique shopping centre
One of Maldon’s most historic buildings is being transformed into a series of boutique shops as part of an ambitious £500,000 renovation project - and is due to open next month.
Property developer Mark Salisbury, 47, bought Church House, in the town’s High Street, in November as a family home for his wife Andrea, 43, and their five children, and has spent months renovating part of it into a retail centre for independent shops.
The Grade II-listed building is famous for being home to the so-called “Fat Man of Maldon”, who is laid to rest in St Peter’s churchyard just yards away.
Mr Salisbury, who bought the house for £750,000, is halfway through the renovation work and plans to have most of the retail area open by mid-October.
