Maldon: Family left homeless after fire destroys Heybridge home
A family have been left homeless after a fire ripped through their Heybridge home.
Some 25 fire fighters attended the blaze in Limbourne Drive at 7.10am yesterday, which completely destroyed the roof of the detached house and caused the first-floor ceiling to cave in.
The family, who have lived in the house for 14 years, have been told it will be uninhabitable for six to eight months.
Mark Anstey, 57, a teacher at William de Ferrers school, noticed the fire through the bedroom ceiling after the upstairs lights had tripped.
His wife Sara, also 57, said: “It’s just surreal, I don’t believe it’s really happening, it’s like it’s on TV.
“I just don’t know where I am sleeping tonight.”
