Burnham: Southminster school making progress towards removal from special measures
4:00pm Monday 16th September 2013 in Local News
A village school is making reasonable progress towards being removed from special measures.
Ofsted inspector Stephen Abbott visited Southminster Primary School in July and his monitoring inspection report was published last week.
It was the third monitoring visit since it was placed in special measures in May last year.
Mr Abbott’s report said Year 5 and 6 pupils had maintained good progress in reading, writing and maths since last September and made up for their underachievement earlier in key stage two.
National test results were positive and youngsters in reception and Years 1 and 2 were also progressing, but children in Years 3 and 4 were working below the level expected for their age.
The school is working towards converting to academy status and it will become the first in a new multi-academy trust being developed by Chelmsford diocese.
