Maldon district: Hundreds to pay tribute to Abbey and Brad in memorial ride
Hundreds of motorcyclists are expected to ride through the district in memory of a teenage couple who died a year ago.
Burnham hairdresser Abbey Parker, 17, of Bakersfield, Mayland, and Brad Cooper, 18, of South Woodham Ferrers, died when Brad’s blue Yamaha motorcycle hit a tractor’s trailer in Lower Burnham Road, North Fambridge, last September.
They had been on their way to the Essex Air Ambulance Motorcycle Run from Laindon to Harwich, which took place on Sunday this year.
To mark the anniversary of their death, bikers, drivers and a coach-full of people will travel from Laindon to Burnham-on-Crouch on Sunday, stopping at their schools, places of work and the site of their death.
The families of Abbey and Brad will then lead a minute’s silence before carrying on towards Burnham.
At Burnham, Mandy Lodge, who runs the Matrix Hair Art salon where Abbey worked, will offer cups of tea and coffee.
To get involved in the ride, arrive at Tesco in Mandeville Way, Basildon at 10am for a 10.30am start.
