Burnham: New homes would be 'urban sprawl' in countryside
3:00pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Local News
New homes and a shop planned for a small village would result in “urban sprawl”in the countryside, claim councillors.
Maldon District Council refused planning permission for the ten flats, 22 houses and a shop with a flat above on land south of Strathmore Road, North Fambridge.
Councillors said the new estate would have an “unacceptable visual impact” and “result in urban sprawl into the countryside, failing to protect the countryside for its landscape appearance and tranquillity value.”
Applicant Roe Partners had planned a mixture of one, two and three bedroom homes, to resurface Strathmore Road up to the end of the estate and upgrade the access on to Fambridge Road.
They included 68 parking spaces plus three on Strathmore Road for the shop.
