Maldon: 'We don't want a nightclub in Maldon'
Residents are fearing that a bar and cafe could become like a nightclub if it is allowed to open 24 hours a day.
OAKhouse bar and cafe in the High Street has applied to vary its licence to allow it to open and play recorded music every hour each day.
Live music would be limited to 8am to 11pm.
The current licence allows opening hours of 8.30am to 11.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and 8.30am to 11pm on Sundays.
Andrea Salisbury, who lives in the High Street and runs the Continental Cafe opposite the bar with husband Mark, said: “It will change its identity as a cafe-bar if it becomes a nightclub.
“The market town of Maldon does not need a nightclub.”
