Maldon: District council helps out residents during floods
11:07am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Local News
As water started seeping into homes and businesses after Saturday's torrential downpours, Maldon District Council were on hand to help residents.
The council gave out sandbags at the weekend to stop flood water entering buildings.
A council spokesperson said: "The council maintains limited stocks of sandbags used to protect its own property against flooding but will try to assist residents during an emergency with advice or assistance.
"Homeowners are encouraged and reminded they should, wherever possible, take steps to protect their property themselves and should not rely on a response from the council.
"On Saturday it became difficult to move vehicles and supplies during the flood due to traffic congestion caused by flooded roads.
"Regardless of this, the council was pleased to have been able to support a large number of residents during and after Saturday’s flood incident.
“Residents are reminded that there is advice for homeowners on flooding and flood preparation at http://www.maldonresilience.info/.’’
