Maldon: Pirates invade for charity rowing race
5:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Local News
Pirates will be invading Heybridge Basin, in the name of fun and charity.
Row 4a Reason returns on September 7, and this year’s theme is Pirates of the Blackwater.
The race around Northey Island starts from the lock gates on Lock Hill at 1.30pm.
This year’s rowers will be raising money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind, Bipolar UK and Life Education.
For those not taking part, there will be plenty to keep them entertained on dry land.
From 10am to about 5pm there will be live music from Sounds Collective Choir, a farmers and craft market, sausage, beer and cider festival, tombolas and raffles.
Try the coconut shy or sumo wrestling, children will be entertained with face painting and a soft play area, and there will be a competition to name a guide dog.
There will also be an auction to win a host of prizes, including a rowing boat, fresh flowers for a year and a small television.
On Sunday, September 8, there will also be a farmers and craft market, jazz music, a football shoot-out and other activities, from 10am to about 5pm.
