Burnham: Villagers up in arms over new homes planned for Latchingdon
Villagers are up in arms over a proposal for almost 50 new homes on their doorstep.
Latchingdon could experience a population boom, if plans for land at Bridgemans Farm, Bridgemans Green, come to fruition.
Developer Gary Sharp has submitted a planning application to Maldon District Council to build 46 homes on the 1.65-hectare site, situated behind a row of 15 houses.
Out of the 46 properties, 15 would be affordable homes.
The plans also include a community hub next to a children’s play area, which could be a coffee shop or doctor’s surgery.
More than 100 people viewed the new plans, which feature a reduced number of homes from the initial 58, at a consultation event held by Latchingdon Parish Council on Saturday at Latchingdon village hall.
Dad-of-two Peter Lock, of Bridgemans Green, said: “We are concerned about the crossing nearby, kids use it to get to the bus stops to get to school.
“Extra traffic turning right when the crossing is only 10 yards away is an accident waiting to happen."
