Maldon: Natasha, 14, on mend after being impaled with knife
5:00pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Local News
A teenager avoided serious injury after a barnacle-covered knife became embedded in her leg in a freak accident.
Natasha Layley, 14, was helping to clean the bottom of her friend’s barge at Hythe Quay, Maldon, when she knelt on the blade, which was hidden in the mud.
The Plume School pupil, of Fambridge Road, Maldon, needed two operations and missed the V Festival on Saturday, but is recovering well.
Mum Claire Layley thanked the barge community who came to her daughter's aid, emergency services, hospital staff, friends and family for their support.
