Burnham: Woman with one kneecap aims for marathon world record
A woman with just one kneecap is embarking on a world record challenge - to be the fastest woman to run a marathon in seven continents.
Fiona Oakes, 43, of Tillingham Road, Asheldham, has already smashed a world record in April when she won a woman’s 26.2-mile race in the North Pole in sub-zero temperatures.
Now Miss Oakes, who lost her kneecap after a severe injury as a teenager, is after a new challenge and hopes to run seven marathons in each continent as well as a polar ice cap between April and December - the fastest a woman has ever done so.
The extreme marathon runner, who owns and runs Tower Hill Stables, in Asheldham, said she continues to challenge herself, not because she enjoys it, but for her animals.
