Essex: Police warning to check private tutors
11:23am Wednesday 14th August 2013 in Local News
Police are advising parents to check the identities of private tutors after children were shown to be at risk.
Essex Police has issued the warning after the man, who was carrying out private martial arts tuition, was found to pose a potential risk.
Police became aware of the circumstances following a Right to Ask application.
Following approval from chief officers, parents were informed so they could ensure their child was no longer at risk.
DCI Paul Johnson from the force’s public protection unit said: "If children are receiving tuition in any subject, sport or past-time, parents should ensure they check the person is suitably vetted.
"They may choose to ask to see their certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service or consider making a Right to Ask application through police.”
