Burnham: Debate over housing sites re-ignites
3:00pm Monday 19th August 2013 in Local News
Calls for a bigger development site in Burnham caused controversy at a council meeting.
Maldon District Council approved its draft Local Development Plan, which allocated two sites for 180 homes to the west and north west of the town, and one for 90 in the east.
Previously, 450 homes had been earmarked for west Burnham but councillors split them up in response to concerns from residents.
But Mike Wood, independent councillor Burnham North, suggested increasing one of the allocations from 180 to 300 as developers had promised a supermarket, employment land, a 40 to 60 bed care home, primary school and leisure centre.
However, other councillors said there was no demand for a supermarket and the size of the allocations should remain the same.
