5:00pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Local News
Pupils made compensation claims totalling tens of thousands of pounds against their schools.
A child at Latchingdon Primary School made a claim for £9,600 after receiving a deep puncture wound to their thigh while playing in the playground, according to figures released by Essex County Council under the Freedom of Information Act.
Another pupil at Heybridge Primary School claimed for £55,750 after suffering injury following a bump to the head during a lunchtime playground incident in June 2011.
A pupil at St Peter's High School, Burnham, now Ormiston Rivers Academy, suffered diabetic ketoacidosis caused by lack of insulin during a school trip, which they claimed was due to lack of monitoring by a teacher.
They claimed for £19,000 following the incident in April 2011.
No payouts were made for the three claims, according to the council figures.
The incidents were among 79 claims lodged by staff and pupils at Essex schools in the last three financial years.
