Campaigners had fought the Tesco Express plan
Tesco has launched an appeal in its bid to bring a new store to Maldon.
Maldon District Council refused planning permission for a Tesco Express at The Cups pub in Wantz Road in March.
Councillors had said it would have a detrimental effect on traffic congestion, highway safety and on street parking, despite planning officers recommending they approve the plans.
The Planning Inspectorate notified the council it had received the retail giant’s appeal last week.
