The battle of Maldon has always drawn interest from scholars far and wide - and now Japan is interested in the district’s arguably most famous event.
Professor Massaaki Hara, of the Faculty of Economics at Tohoku Gakuin University in Sendai, Japan visited Maldon last year to research the town’s encounter with the Vikings in 991.
Mr Hara has now published his paper, named ‘Anglo-Saxon England, the Vikings and the Battle of Maldon’, to include in an international academic journal.
However it can only be read if you know Japanese.
