Campaigners celebrated last night as councillors decided to throw out proposals for a Tesco Express in the town.

Councillors decided to reject the proposal to change The Cups pub in Wantz Road into a new convenience store after residents voiced concerns over safety at the junction.

District councillors at the Central Planning Committee at Maldon District Council agreed with the arguments and met with cheers and a round of applause as they voted to reject the application.

Excellent news It was always cynical of Tesco to try to site the third Tesco in the town directly opposite the already struggling Coop store. It's not as though we need any more Tesco Stores either.

Well done Maldon Councillors .. Shame on Maldon District Planning Officers

Hi Emma.
I proposed that the application was refused because the proposed Tesco store would have a materially detrimental effect on the amenities of nearby residents because of the Traffic Congestion and Highway Safety that the 47ft long delivery vehicles would have and also the additional On Street Parking would make the existing parking situation a lot worse than it already is baring in mind that hundreds of school children cross the Wantz/Mill/Cross/Mun
don Road junctions every weekday.
Regards
Cllr. Bryan Harker
