Organisers of this year’s Maldon Carnival are set to apply for a licence that will allow up to 5,000 people to attend.

Currently the carnival only has the permission to allow 499 people at the event at any one time.

Committee members decided to increase the attendance limit by thousands at an emergency meeting on Thursday, following the furore of superstar Beyoncé initially agreeing to appear at the event.
