Police have confirmed a woman has died following a crash this morning.

Officers were called to a collision involving a silver Ford Fiesta, white and green Scania tipper lorry and black Renault Megane on the A414 Maldon Road at Maldon at 10.50am.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 36-year-old woman from the Maldon area, was declared dead at the scene.

The lorry driver was uninjured. The driver of the Megane received minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

The road was closed for four-and-a-half hours while officers carried out initial investigations.

Firefighters from Maldon, Colchester and the Urban Search and Rescue unit from Lexden attended the scene.

A fire service spokesman said one person was freed from a vehicle.

Two ambulances and the Essex Air Ambulance also attended the scene.

It's amazing that the ambulance was called before the accident happened, at least according to this report.

I posted the above comment before the dreadful news that a lady lost her life was reported.
