A rower is on the verge of breaking the world record for the quickest solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.


Dad-of-four Charlie Pitcher, 50, is hoping to reach Barbados this afternoon after 36 days alone on the water.


Charlie, who trained in Burnham and is a member of the Royal Burnham Yacht Club, is within 150 miles of the finish line having departed from La Gomera, in the Canary Islands, on February 6.
