Maldon: Childcare costs hitting hard

A Maldon mum is having to dip into her University bursary to pay for her childcare.

The shocking news comes after a report by the Daycare Trust and the Family and Parenting Institute found that the average cost of childcare has increased by more than six percent, which is double the rate of inflation.

Mum-of-three, Natalie Marsh, is training to become a midwife at Anglia Ruskin University. Because her placement shift patterns are not consistent, her children’s before and after school club refuse to take them on.

So what's the 'shocking' issue?

Was she expecting to get childcare for free in this austerity age? Fine to train as nurse but there are costs for everyone at University, nor merely for mothers of three.

Or was she expecting an after school club to restructure itself totally for her?
