Affordable homes should go to local people.

That is the view of district council Adrian Fluker, who will be pushing to make sure affordable housing in a proposed 113-home development in Southminster benefits people with a connection to the village.

At Monday evening’s South Eastern Area Planning Committee meeting, councillors agreed to give the thumbs up to outline plans for land between Scotts Hill and Southfield Way.

Why should affordable houses go to local people? Surely they should go to people who can add most to the community? (Teacher aides / nursing aides and such like).

Just because you are born into an area there is no eternal right to be able to live there. If you cant afford to live in area then you either have to move or you have to earn more. It's called capitalism and is the way of the world.

Giving in to 'only for locals' is a really poorly thought out idea.
