UPDATE: Maldon: Traffic chaos as lorry breaks down carrying wind turbine
2:29pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Local News By Emma Robinson
A lorry carrying part of a wind turbine has broken down, causing huge traffic disruptions.
Police are now urging motorists to avoid the Fambridge Road area until 5.30pm today when the load will be recovered.
Two similiar lorries are currently on the A12 and will come through the same area.
Motorists are currently being diverted to Purleigh and Mundon to avoid the lorry, which has broken down outside the Round Bush pub.
The lorry's load is destined for the wind farm at Bradwell, which is undergoing construction.
A police spokesperson said: "While diversions are in place, we are asking people to be patient."
More deliveries are expected to be made tomorrow and Friday between 10am and 3pm.

The other 20 or so policemen were out/off of their vehicles, enjoying the lovely sunshine and watching the driver of the front (broken down) vehicle prod at a front tyre.
How much money is this costing the tax payers?!?!?!
Does not instil confindence ........

Because it's dark.
Having to move oversized loads through narrow roads and your one road in and out villages is very difficult when vision is impaired by the lack of ambient lighting (because you can't see whose house you are going to hit with the massive bit of equipment you are carrying)
Factor in the increased danger to banksmen (which the driver needs to be able to see clearly) and other road users.
Its very little to do with profit, more common sense.

Why are these transits not happening at night when there is less traffic on the road?
But then it would cost more and profit is always put before people.
