A Maldon meat supplier has called for schools to buy produce locally following the national horse meat scandal.

Essex County Council has given the majority of local butchers who supply to schools the all clear after being asked to carry out sampling for the Food Standards Authority.

It has stopped supplies from a small number of butchers who buy in processed meat from a third party, and also from two national suppliers.

Meatline, based in West Station Yard, supply meat to over 40 schools in Essex, including Wentworth School, Maldon Court and All Saints.
