Purleigh: Association told to stump up £5 million for a bench
A village was quoted a whopping £5 million pounds just to insure a potential bench round their village sign.
The fee, which equals a minimum of £200 a year, was quoted to Purleigh Playing Field Association when they approached Essex Highways about installing the bench.
The association had wanted to use the money they raised during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations to purchase the commemorative bench but now they have had to pass on the money to the parish council because they would be able to insure the bench under parish policy.
