Essex: 86% get preferred school place
More than 86 per cent of parents have been offered their first choice of secondary school.
Essex County Council revealed a further seven per cent got their second preference, meaning 94 per cent of pupils will go to the school of their choice.
This is an increase of two per cent on last year. A total of 14,242 applications for secondary school places were made this year.
Stephen Castle, councillor for education, said: “I am sure parents and pupils across the county share my delight at learning even more pupils are securing their first choice of secondary school.
“We have some great secondary schools across the county and we are committed to continuing to work with schools to achieve a world class education system parents and pupils will be proud of. I wish pupils and parents every success with starting this new phase of learning.“
Only 1.7 per cent of parents were not offered any of their preferences, and these pupils will be offered a place at their nearest available school.
