South Woodham Ferrers: Doctor departure could spell the end for surgery South Woodham Ferrers: Doctor departure could spell the end for surgery

Patients are up in arms about the possibility of their surgery closing down, after a popular doctor’s contract was terminated.

Dr Souymo Gorai (pictured) had his contract to provide services from Clements House surgery, in Knight Street, South Woodham Ferrers terminated by NHS North Essex last year.

Unhappy patients had rallied together and hoped for more time to negotiate with the trust, but their efforts were in vain.

Since then patients have had a temporary GP service, but a public consultation has begun this week in the aim of finding a permanent solution.

Two options include setting up a new contract for services, which have the potential to maintain existing staff and services, or for patients to register with other surgeries.

Retired Sharon Greenland-Foster, who has attended the surgery for about 17 years, does not see the point of moving doctors surgeries.

The 55-year-old, of Starboard view, has her entire family registered at the surgery, including husband, children, daughter-in-law and grandaughter.
