Bradwell: Blaze-hit family asks for more firefighters Bradwell: Blaze-hit family asks for more firefighters

Retained firefighters may be recruited in Bradwell after there were too few in a neighbouring village to respond to a bungalow blaze.

Judith Robinson, who works at Dengie Crops, husband Matthew and their two children were left homeless after the fire tore through their home in East End Road, Bradwell, this month.

Villagers are now concerned about the lack of cover from emergency services in Bradwell, after they claim it took over half an hour for a fire engine to reach the house, by which time it was fully alight.

Parish councillors discussed recruiting volunteers from the village at a council meeting, after the nearest crew in Tillingham did not have enough people to fully equip the fire engine.

Crews instead had to travel from Burnham, Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers.

Steve Tachauer, chairman at Bradwell Parish Council, said: “If there is an incident, then Bradwell is just cut off."

How may house fires in Bradwell these past ten years? Enough to warrant their own fire station? Are the parish council going to raise the funds for a fire station??? I think not.
