Maldon could be a step closer to getting a new hospital.

Decisions on the future of healthcare in the town are top of the agenda for groups and organisations involved in the provision of health services.

These groups are set to thrash out what is needed in Maldon with input from the public.

Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (MECCG), the successor organisation to the Primary Care Trust with responsibility for designing and commissioning local health services, last week announced that it will lead in partnership with Maldon District Council a coalition of public service organisations to determine the future of health services at St Peter’s Hospital in Maldon.

District council leader, councillor Bob Boyce said: “This has been a protracted process and the residents of the district will be keen to see it concluded.

“The council looks forward to seeing a new community hospital finally coming to fruition.”
