Families are living in crisis in the Maldon district with more than one in 10 children found to be in poverty.

Some 13 per cent of youngsters in the district are living in a household earning less than 60 per cent of the average UK wage.

Mum-of-one Laura Woollard, of Victoria Road, Maldon, is stuck in a vicious cycle, after having to borrow money from family to live each month.

The 25-year-old, who works as an admin assistant in Morrisons in Limebrook Way, said: “Me and my husband both work and, after paying bills, we are left with practically nothing.

“We get no help at all and yet they are putting prices up on food, petrol and bills."
