No plans are in the pipeline for a crossing on a busy Southminster road, despite two collisions.
Essex County Council made the admission following a collision involving a five-year-old girl outside the Nisa Local store in North Street two weeks ago.
Katie Barker ran out of the shop and into the road, where she was clipped by a car.
The youngster then needed 20 stitches to a deep gash on her head and her family have since said they will petition for a crossing.
In response, a council spokesman said: “Essex County Council takes road safety very seriously and monitors the number of collisions which occur in order to identify where it may be necessary to introduce road safety measures.
“We are not aware of the incident which occurred at this particular site but are sorry to hear that this happened.
“There has been one other collision at this location in the last three years.
“This did not involve a crossing pedestrian.
“There are currently no plans to introduce a pedestrian crossing at this location.
“However, residents can raise their concerns through the Local Highways Panel for consideration.”
