Maldon: Footballing hero to open Mud Race
11:00am Sunday 17th February 2013 in Local News
This year’s hugely popular Maldon Mud Race will be opened by a England footballing legend.
Martin Peters made his mark in the finest moment of this country’s footballing history when he scored the second goal in the 1966 World Cup Final against West Germany.
Peters, who was only 23 at the time, was dubbed “the ghost” by fans for his ability to drift into goal-scoring positions unnoticed.
He will be opening the Mud Race on May 5 and is unlikely to be the only famous face there, given the race’s ability to attract celebrity participants.
