Maldon: Historic home to become boutique centre
11:00am Sunday 10th February 2013 in Local News By Emma Robinson
Angela and Mark Salisbury are renovating Church House.
One of Maldon’s most historic buildings will be changed into a series of boutique shops this summer as part of an ambitious £500,000 renovation.
Property developer Mark Salisbury, 46, bought Church House, in the town’s High Street, in November as a family home for his wife Andrea, 42, and their five children and now intends to renovate part of it into a retail centre for independent shops.
The grade II listed building is famous for being home to the so-called “Fat Man of Maldon”, who is laid to rest in St Peter’s churchyard just yards away.
Mr Salisbury, who bought the house for £750,000, has begun restoration work already and is applying for planning permission to build three more shops.
He hopes the work will be finished by June or July this year.
