A Burnham company is holding a black tie charity fundraiser in honour of a local cancer survivor.
Mekala Carr, 36, who runs tuxedo hire company Formally Suited from her home in Winstree Road, wanted to raise awareness of lymphoma after a family friend was diagnosed with the disease last year.
Dad-of-one Mike Green, 40, of Alexandra Road, Burnham, is now in remission after undergoing chemotherapy for three months.
The self-employed window fitter said: “I started feeling ill in December 2011 and I went to the doctors where they found a couple of lumps on my throat, my armpits and groin.
“I had to have an operation to remove lymph nodes, which was excruciating.
“After all that to be told I had cancer was just terrifying. The fear of dying is awful."
