More than 50 slimmers have sent all their unopened Christmas treats to a Heybridge care home.

Enthusiastic dieters ditched all their chocolates, sweets and cakes in hope of a sensational new year weight loss.

The goodies, amounting to more than 50 large packets of chocolates and countless mince pies, puddings and cakes, were given to residents at Brewster House in Oak Road.

Emma Chapman, gold consultant for the Slimming World in Heybridge and Wickham Bishops, decided on the chocolate amnesty for the second year running to help remove temptation from the kitchen cupboards.

She said: “You know what it’s like. You sit in front of the kitchen and it’s as if the stuff in the kitchen cupboard are calling you."
