Residents are urged to be vigilant after lead thieves caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to a community hall.

Heybridge-based Plantation Hall in Colchester Road only had a very small amount of lead on its roof because it is fitted with a faux lead material.

But when thieves stole this scrap of metal they caused an “incredible” amount of damage, according to parish council clerk Laurie Wiebe.

Council chairman Michael Edwards said: “I’m frustrated something like this should happen."

No arrests have been made in connection with the lead theft.

If you can help with the police investigation, call the non-emergency number 101.
