Maldon: Runners swap pews for pavements Maldon: Runners swap pews for pavements

This congregation has swapped pews for the pavements as part of a health drive.

When PE teacher Gemma Quantrill saw some members of the congregation at the Maldon-based Christian Growth Centre (CGC) were struggling with their health, she decided to take action.

She encouraged worshippers to start running.

More than a year on, and the runs have become so popular that Mrs Quantrill, who works at a Wickford school, is now opening up the group to the public.

The 32-year-old, of Heywood Way, Heybridge, said: “My husband, Kevin, 29, has a passion for outreach through sport in the local community.

“When we realised some members of the congregation were struggling with health and self esteem issues it seemed like an opportunity to embrace this.”
