MP calls for investigation into U's planning decision

Tim Young has defended Colchester Council's decision to allow Colchester United to use its Tiptree training ground for longer.
AN MP has accused Colchester Council of “failing to do a proper job” when it granted permission for a football club to use its village training ground for longer.
Councillors gave the green light for Colchester United to increase the number of hours players can use the Florence Park training ground, in Grange Road, Tiptree.
But now MP Priti Patel, whose Witham constituency covers the village, has called for an investigation into how the U’s application was dealt with.
She said: “I have lodged a formal complaint to the council’s Chief Executive and have asked that the independent Local Government Ombudsman intervenes as local residents have no confidence in the council.”
She added: “Residents have been badly let down by Colchester Council, who have failed to do a proper job with this application.
“Residents have no confidence in the council and it now needs to take a long hard look at itself and how it has handled this issue, which has been shambolic from the start.”
A spokesman for the Local Government Ombudsman confirmed a complaint has been received.
But Tim Young, borough councillor responsible for planning, has defended the decision.
“Raising the issue like this is fanciful and gives the residents false hope,” said Mr Young.
He added: “The council has done nothing wrong and I am absolutely and totally satisfied that we have done everything by the book."

CBC also ignored recommendations made by ECC regarding necessary highway improvements and to this day, nearly 5 years on, those improvements have still not been carried out.

She's absolutely right. It's about time someone stood up to the bullying led by Cowling and his failing football club.
They can train in my back garden if they like! I get more noise from the local business park (which i also acknowledge and support).
She's only Right in acknowledging that there are pathetic complainers who hate to see anything bloom or progress.We should be proud that we have a league one football team.They won't be here forever.And with comments like yours, it's not hard to understand why!

I might add, had our own Colchester MP taken the matter seriously both at the time and subsequently then those highway improvements may have been carried out by now.
Small world isn't it.
I do look forward to the planning battles when the housing starts being built in Tiptree. Should be fun.

Sir Bob won't make much noise now from the sidelines as he has his gong which was in return for his silence.
If I was a betting man, i'd put money on him standing down at the next election.

He ought not to pronounce either way on a Tiptree matter, as it is outside his constituency. Admittedly he has already pronounced on the deleterious Horkesley Park project, which suggests he might say somethng about Tiptree too, but since he and Cowling are not on speaking terms, this seems unlikely.

You'll notice no where in Priti's speil above is anything specific. I wouldnt be too happy if I was her constituent and thats the best argument she could muster.
