Residents have defended Maldon’s hospital after a report revealed it lacked the staff to keep people safe.

St Peter’s Hospital, in Spital Road, was warned by the Care Quality Commission that it did not have enough staff “to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs”.

The hospital was also told in 2011 that improvements were required in the training and supervision of staff, and the chance to develop and improve their skills.

This week, St Peter’s Hospital was named as one of 17 hospitals on a list of 26 health providers found to have inadequate staffing levels, as revealed by Labour’s shadow health secretary, Andy Burnham.
