High Street shops have been warned to remain on their guard after a charity shop’s takings were stolen.

About £700 was taken from a safe at the Cancer Research UK shop in Maldon High Street between December 22 and 24.

The break-in follows more than half a dozen similar burglaries in the town centre during November and December.

Some £400 of damage was also caused to the door of The Hair Room, in High Street, on December 22.

Police believe the damage was caused during an attempt to break into the hairdressers.
