Maldon district: Police issue warning over thefts from vehicles
Police have warned car owners not to leave valuables in their vehicles.
Between December 17 and 31, there were 14 thefts of sat navs from cars across the district, as well as further mobile phone and laptop thefts.
Five sat navs were taken in Maldon town centre overnight between December 19 and 20, including in Tennyson Road, Washington Road and Wantz Road.
Sgt Martin White, of Maldon police, said: “I would think we’ve got somebody just going around doing several on one night there.
“The main issue we’ve got at the moment is people leaving things in vehicles. Things like laptops and particularly sat navs and mobile phones.
“There’s no set pattern for where they’re happening, but they’re happening across Maldon and to a lesser extent in Burnham.
“Typical values of these sat navs is between £50 and £300."
He added: "Either don’t leave things in your vehicle or certainly leave them out of sight.”
