Parents have expressed their concern over the district’s play areas and have urged the council to take action.

Maldon District Council have received six complaints so far this year over the safety of the district’s play areas.

Half of the complaints were made about the Oak Tree Meadow site in Heybridge, where Plume School sixth former Sam Richards fractured his skull in September.

Details of the complaints have been released in a Freedom of Information request by the Standard.

On May 15, the council tidied and removed temporary fencing at the site after contractors had left temporary fencing broken.

The spinning rope cage was removed and a fence was put up on October 2 after Sam’s fall from the cage.

Tracy Page, 38, of Tenterfield Road, Maldon, raised concerns about the play area seven years ago when her daughter Jazmin, now 21, broke her leg on the wooden posts surrounding the site.
