More than one in three people in the Maldon District have points on their driving licence.

Some 21,503 people have one point or more, with 17,544 accumulating three points.

Around 3,000 people have six points and one person even has totalled 16 points.

Some 52 residents have also been disqualified from driving in 2012.

This has decreased year-on-year, with 68 disqualifications in 2011 and 73 in 2010.

The figures have been released in a Freedom of Information request by The Standard.

Sargeant Perry Land said: “Traffic offences are an issue country wide, it’s not specifically in Maldon.

“People continue to commit traffic offences, particularly using their mobile phones whilst driving."
