An heroic Burnham war veteran has finally achieved victory in the long battle for the medal he deserves.

Bill Farley, of Welland Road, and fellow veterans have battled since the 1990s for proper decoration and last week Prime Minister David Cameron finally announced the creation of an Arctic Convoy medal.

Mr Farley was among those who helped take crucial supplies to the Soviet Union during the Arctic Convoys, braving 70ft waves and temperatures as low as -50°C, as well as the threat posed by German U-boats.
